What kind of work does Placebo Press accept?
Placebo Press exclusively reviews poetry submissions. Authors should express themselves in whatever way that best resonates with them. There are no limits on form, style, composition, word count, or length. However, Placebo Press does not entertain submissions consisting of hate directed at any individual or group.
Who does Placebo Press publish?
Placebo Press exclusively publishes poetry written by healthcare professionals, employees, affiliates, and students. We do not currently accept submissions written by patients.
Does Placebo Press accept simultaneous submissions?
Placebo Press encourages authors to submit their work wherever they see fit and accepts simultaneous submissions. We kindly ask that you inform us if your work is selected elsewhere.
What is the copyright protocol for submissions?
If accepted, Placebo Press acquires first rights to publish in the forthcoming issue and non-exclusive electronic and archival rights. All rights are maintained by the author following publication. If your work is reissued following publication in Placebo Press, we ask that you acknowledge the original publication. By submitting to Placebo Press, authors express agreement to these terms.
Submission Guidelines
How do authors submit?
Authors can submit a maximum of three poems per submission period. All submissions are free and must be sent to placebopresssubmissions@gmail.com. The subject line should include the author’s name, title/relationship to medicine, and the number of submitted poems. For example: “Submission, John Doe, Nurse, 2”
What should be included in the body of the submission e-mail?
Authors should include the title(s) of the submission(s), the name under which they want to be published, a preferred e-mail address, and a brief biography written in the 3rd person. These bios will be published alongside the accepted poems. All e-mail addresses are confidential and will never be published or shared. Poems should be included directly within the body of the e-mail or as attachments in the .doc, .docx, or .pdf format. If accepted, authors will have an opportunity to approve the final draft of their work in the issue prior to publication.
How long can authors expect to hear back following submission?
Authors can expect to hear back within three months of submission. Authors are encouraged to reach out if three months have passed without a reply.
Does Placebo Press review submissions on a rolling basis?
Placebo Press reviews submissions in the order they are received and communicates with authors as quickly as possible.
